American Grandmaster's Admission: Uzbek Chess Is Growing Very Rapidly

Recognition by American Grandmaster: Uzbekistan's chess is growing very rapidly

Renowned American Grandmaster Fabiano Caruana shared his thoughts on the role of states in the development of chess. He emphasized that this sport is important not only for intellectual growth but also for shaping strategic thinking.

According to Caruana, chess in the United States develops primarily through the private sector. There is no significant government involvement in this field, and it relies heavily on the support of sponsors.

"Chess is very beneficial. But in the US, the government is hardly involved in this process, and we rely more on private sponsors," Caruana said.

The situation is different in European countries. There, governments actively participate in supporting chess, which directly impacts results. State-level attention and investment were noted as the primary drivers of growth.

"In Europe, states are much more active in this field. This has a direct impact on development," Caruana said.

Caruana specifically mentioned Uzbekistan and India as the countries that have achieved the greatest progress over the last 20 years. It was noted that the attitude toward chess, infrastructure, and the level of support in these countries are high.

"The countries that have achieved the most growth in the last 20 years have been Uzbekistan and India. There is great state attention and investment in chess there, and the results are visible," Caruana said.

The example of Uzbekistan, in particular, impressed Caruana. In his opinion, despite not having a large territory, the country is managing to produce world-class grandmasters.

"Even though Uzbekistan is not a large country, it is able to produce the world's strongest chess players," Caruana said, as quoted by UzChess.

In short, the formula in chess is "resource + strategy = result." Uzbekistan is utilizing this formula very effectively.
