Morgan Gibbs-White, the author of the only goal in the match, dedicated his success to teammate Elliot Anderson. During the goal celebration, the midfielder displayed a special message in support of Anderson, who had left the squad following the passing of his mother, Helen.
Nottingham Forest players expressed their condolences on the pitch by holding up Anderson's number 8 jersey with the words: "Family first. We are all with you."
The club's official statement also expressed deep condolences to the player's family.
Helen Anderson had consistently followed her son's career and took pride in his journey from the Newcastle academy to the Premier League. Nottingham Forest will now face another English side, Aston Villa, in the semi-finals.
