A sensational decision has been made in Turkish football. Fenerbahçe midfielder and team captain Mert Hakan Yandaş has been banned from football activities for one year.
According to the press service of the Turkish Football Federation, the punishment was imposed due to a case related to betting on games. The decision was made by the disciplinary committee and the case was examined as part of an investigation into match-fixing.
It is reported that the player had been detained for four months in connection with this case and was released on April 3 of this year. In addition, a one-year disqualification was imposed as a disciplinary measure.
The 31-year-old Yandaş has been playing for Fenerbahçe since 2020. During that time, he has made 149 appearances for the team, scoring 11 goals and providing 25 assists.
Together with the club, the player won the Turkish Cup in 2023 and the Super Cup in 2025. Therefore, his disqualification could be a significant loss for the team.
