A 6-time world champion in rapid and a 9-time world champion in blitz, he also holds another record: an unbeaten streak of 125 consecutive games in classical chess.
However, there is an aspect that makes today's match even more intriguing. Nodirbek Abdusattorov has successfully played against this legend before. Specifically, in 2021, he defeated Carlsen on his way to becoming the World Rapid Champion. This adds a special layer of intrigue and confidence to today's encounter.
Notably, this time Abdusattorov will be playing with the black pieces, which makes the task even more challenging. Nevertheless, our compatriot has proven many times that he can compete against any opponent with his composure, calculation-based play, and strategic thinking.
