Former Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu revealed that Vinicius Junior had reached a preliminary agreement with the Catalan club before joining Real Madrid. At the time, representatives of Barcelona had negotiated with the talented winger's family and agents while he was playing in Brazil. This is reported by Goal.com .
However, Real Madrid came up with a much more attractive financial offer and reached an agreement with Flamengo in May 2017. As a result, the then 16-year-old player officially became a member of the Madrid team in July 2018, after turning 18.
In an interview with ESPN Deportes, Bartomeu said: "Vinicius Junior was on our radar. We spoke with his family and agents, and there was indeed a preliminary agreement. But Madrid came up with a better offer than ours and snatched the player."
During his career at the Madrid club, Vinicius Junior has become one of the best forwards in the world. He has made 372 appearances in all competitions, scoring 127 goals and providing 100 assists. He also played a key role in his team's trophy win by scoring the winning goal against Liverpool in the 2022 Champions League final.
