Inter Miami star Lionel Messi made a surprising statement ahead of the 2026 World Cup. He noted that several other national teams have a better chance of winning the trophy than the reigning champions, Argentina. This is reported by Goal.com .
In an interview with journalist Pollo Alvarez, the Argentina captain admitted that rivals are currently in better form. It came as a surprise to many that Messi included Portugal, led by Cristiano Ronaldo, on his list. He called the Portuguese a very competitive and well-balanced team.
The Argentine also singled out the France national team. He noted that the French, led by Kylian Mbappe, are rich in high-level players and are capable of fighting for the top prize in any tournament.
Traditional giants Brazil and Spain also made it onto Messi's list. In his opinion, even though these teams have not been showing consistent performances lately, their potential is always dangerous and they are capable of achieving any result at the World Cup.
