PSG head coach Luis Enrique commented on his team's position in the title race after the match against Brest in the 33rd round of Ligue 1. The Parisians won 1-0, securing three crucial points before the end of the season.
Enrique emphasized that PSG really needed these points. In his opinion, the victory over Brest has practically decided the fate of the championship.
“We needed these points. I think we have secured the title,” said the Spanish specialist.
At the same time, Enrique praised Lens' performance this season. He noted that this team provided serious competition to PSG throughout the championship and made the season quite difficult for the Parisians.
“We must acknowledge how Lens played throughout the season. They put up very strong resistance, it was really difficult for us. It was easier in the last two seasons,” added Enrique.
According to the specialist, every player wearing the PSG jersey now must be at maximum readiness. The team faces two major tasks simultaneously: clinching the French league title and preparing sufficiently for the Champions League final.
Enrique emphasized that the upcoming match against Lens will also be taken seriously, but it is necessary to manage the players' workload. He said the main focus is now on the Champions League final.
“That is why we will approach the game against Lens in the same way, but we must also manage the players' workload. The main goal is the Champions League final,” he said.
The Spanish coach did not hide the fact that the team has not yet fully recovered emotionally from the match in Munich. Therefore, preparation for the match against Brest was not easy.
“We haven't fully recovered from the situation after Munich. Our thoughts are still there, so it was difficult to prepare for this game,” said Enrique.
At the same time, there has been no celebration in the PSG dressing room yet. The coach says there are still important games ahead and the team must focus on those.
“We didn't celebrate in the dressing room because we have another game ahead. One of the most important matches of the season awaits us,” he stressed.
It should be noted that with 2 rounds left in the championship, PSG is 6 points ahead of second-placed Lens. Collecting at least 1 point in the remaining matches will officially guarantee the title for the Paris club.
The situation is favorable for PSG now: the title is almost in their hands, and the Champions League final is ahead. Now the most important task for Enrique is to keep the players in the right mental and physical condition, as the most exciting part of the season is just beginning.
