The race for the Real Madrid presidency: Riquelme promises Erling Haaland

Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez is expected to face serious competition in the upcoming elections. Enrique Riquelme, head of the energy company Cox, has officially notified the club's electoral committee of his candidacy. Riquelme could become the first official challenger to the incumbent president, reports Goal.com. reports .
To formalize a candidacy, applicants must have at least 20 years of club membership and provide a financial guarantee of 187 million euros, equivalent to 15 percent of the annual budget. If all requirements are met, a vote will be organized among club members. The registration period for candidates is open until May 23.
According to El Confidencial, Riquelme has prepared two major transfer plans to win over voters. His primary goal is to bring Manchester City striker Erling Haaland to Madrid. Reports suggest the businessman has already been in contact with the Norwegian forward's representatives.
Riquelme's second major plan concerns the managerial position. He intends to appoint Jürgen Klopp, who is currently working within the Red Bull system. This plan could cast doubt on the option of José Mourinho, who was previously expected to return to the Real Madrid dugout.
Florentino Pérez stated in a press conference that a "smear campaign" is being waged against him. Real Madrid has finished two consecutive years without a trophy for the first time since the 2009/10 season, which is intensifying the political struggle within the club.
