Ballon d'Or moves to England: 2026 ceremony to be held in London

The football world's focus is shifting to England. UEFA has officially confirmed that the 2026 Ballon d'Or ceremony will be held in London. For the first time in the history of this prestigious award, the gala will be hosted on English soil, marking a historic event for the capital. According to Goal.com reports.

According to an official statement released by UEFA and France Football, the 70th anniversary edition of the award will take place on October 26, 2026. Organizers explained this decision as a tribute to the award's first winner, legendary English footballer Sir Stanley Matthews. This step is being taken to further globalize the event and modernize it for a new generation of fans.

The 2026 race is already heating up. The reigning men's winner, PSG forward Ousmane Dembele, will attempt to defend his crown. His main rivals are seen as Harry Kane, who had a fantastic season with Bayern, and Barcelona star Lamine Yamal, who finished second in last year's poll. It is certain that Harry Kane will give his all to win at the ceremony held on home soil.

In the completed season, Harry Kane made 51 appearances for Bayern in all competitions, recording 61 goals and 7 assists. Along with winning the Bundesliga and the German Cup, he also claimed the European Golden Shoe. Lamine Yamal celebrated the La Liga title with Barcelona, tallying 24 goals and 18 assists in 45 matches.

This London-hosted event will mark the third year of the strategic partnership between UEFA and Group Amaury, owners of France Football. Organizers state that the strategy of hosting the ceremony in major football hubs will further strengthen the global prestige of the Ballon d'Or, making it one of the most-watched sporting events in the world.
