Japan To Use AI For More Accurate Weather Forecasts
Japan is taking a major step in meteorology — this summer, the Japan Meteorological Agency plans to begin using artificial intelligence (AI) to improve weather forecast accuracy, pepelac.news reported.

According to Kyodo News, the system will rely on deep learning technologies, analyzing massive amounts of historical weather data along with real-time observations.

In its initial stage, AI will operate alongside current supercomputer-based simulation models. The goal is not to replace meteorologists, but to equip them with a powerful tool to detect anomalies, predict typhoon paths, and assess precipitation risks more accurately.

A dedicated team was established in April to lead the project, and in June, the agency will announce further steps for AI implementation. While still in the adaptation phase, Japanese experts believe these algorithms represent the future of faster, more reliable, and accessible forecasting.
