In northern Mexico’s Monterrey city, a unique AI-powered robot dog is strolling the streets, encouraging people to be kinder to animals. According to Peopletalk, the robot, named Valdog, was created to raise public awareness about the problem of animal cruelty.
The project’s initiator, federal senator from Monterrey Valdo Fernández, spent over four thousand dollars of his own funds on the robot. He also gave the intelligent pet his own name. Valdog is remotely controlled and must always be accompanied by a human supervisor.
The robot dog not only walks around the city but also records litter in the area and keeps track of other stray dogs. Fernández says Valdog has a busy schedule: visiting schools, squares, and neighborhoods, as well as taking plenty of selfies with residents.
Experts believe such robot dogs could be widely used in search and rescue operations after natural disasters in the future. U.S. authorities are also working on similar devices to patrol the border with Mexico.
