Google announced it will invest $6.8 billion in the United Kingdom. The decision was made public ahead of U.S. President Donald Trump’s state visit. During the visit, economic deals worth over $10 billion are expected to be signed.
The company will open a new data centre near London. It will serve the growing demand for Google’s cloud services and AI-based products.
UK finance minister Rachel Reeves described the decision as “confidence in the economy.” According to Google, the new investment will create more than 8,000 jobs annually.
Google also stated that, in cooperation with Shell, it will contribute to the country’s energy system and environmental sustainability. Starting in 2026, the company plans to operate in the UK with up to 95% clean energy.
