Samsung unveiled its first foldable smartphone

Samsung has unveiled its first three-folded Galaxy Z TriFold smartphone. According to Reuters, this model has impressed viewers with its innovative features.

The device is priced at 3.59 million won ($2,440), has a 253.1 millimeter screen, and opens with three panels. The screen size is 25% larger than Samsung's previous Galaxy Z Fold 7. It also has specific variations in screen width and quality.

According to Alex Lim, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics and Head of Korea's Sales and Marketing Department, the folding device market will continue to grow. This TriFold model is especially designed for clients interested in specific fire technologies. With a unified universal design and new features, this device has high quality.

The TriFold smartphone, manufactured in South Korea, will be launched in the domestic market on December 12. It is expected to be presented in China, Singapore, Taiwan, and the United Arab Emirates in 2026. In the USA, it is planned to be presented to users in the first quarter of 2026.

The TriFold model has the largest battery, capable of charging up to 50% in 30 minutes. This was introduced to the fast charging system, which provides users with a new and fast charging option.

Lim stated that he acknowledged the difficulty of making a decision, stating that this would lead to a sharp increase in prices. In addition, the cost of the innovation and the significant costs of the production process are associated with this.

Competition with Huawei and Apple

According to analysts, TriFold was created not to become a global big deal, but to showcase new technologies. This device is the first generation product in the world to demonstrate a new design concept. Samsung emphasized that it will not transition to mass production at this stage.

It is also important to anticipate competition and new products. Huawei plans to introduce the industry's first three-sided foldable phone in September 2024, while Apple plans to enter the market with its first foldable device in 2026.

At the same time, high prices and mass production restrictions can hinder the development of this industry, analysts believe. According to Counterpoint Research, folding phones will make up less than 2% of the total smartphone market in 2025, and by 2027 this figure will not exceed 3%.
