Telegram blocked over 44 million channels and groups in 2025

Telegram’s administration blocked 44.085 million channels and groups that violated the platform’s rules throughout 2025. This figure is nearly 2.7 times higher than the final result for 2024. Podrobno.uz reports reports .
The largest cleanup took place in Q4 2025, when more than 17.416 million resources were shut down. That is even more than the total number blocked throughout 2024.
Among the removed communities were over 950,000 groups distributing child sexual abuse material (up 28%), as well as around 234,000 communities linked to terrorist propaganda (up 66.6%).
Daily blocking statistics also stand out: on January 1, 2026, Telegram removed nearly 543,000 communities. This was the third time since December 2023 that the number of resources removed in a single day exceeded half a million. The previous two spikes were recorded in November 2024.
The increase is attributed to stronger global enforcement of platform rules. Telegram is said to be actively rolling out new moderation tools to combat violence, terrorist propaganda, and child exploitation.
