How AI is impacting the labor market

A new study conducted by Anthropic has shown that the real role of artificial intelligence in the labor market is significantly lower than its theoretical capabilities. Experts introduced a new metric called the "observed effect" and analyzed the gap between the potential of language models and the statistics of their use in real workflows. Reports devby.io.

According to the study, artificial intelligence has the potential to accelerate 94% of tasks in computer science and mathematics. However, in practice, this figure is only 33%. The technology is not operating at full capacity due to legal restrictions, the need for human oversight, and difficulties in integrating with complex systems.

The most affected professionals are programmers, whose tasks can be up to 75% performed with the help of artificial intelligence. Customer support services and analysts are also leading in this list. At the same time, for chefs, mechanics, and 30% of manual laborers, artificial intelligence has not yet made a significant change.

Interestingly, the widespread adoption of artificial intelligence has not led to a sharp increase in unemployment. Although the likelihood of young professionals aged 22 to 25 entering high-tech fields has decreased by 14%, this situation is not yet statistically strong. Experts also attribute these changes to other factors in the personnel training system.
