New image models increased application loading speed by 6.5 times

According to AppFigures, new image-generating AI models have significantly boosted mobile app downloads, increasing them by 6.5 times compared to traditional updates. Following the launch of visual capabilities like those in ChatGPT and Gemini, millions of new downloads were recorded, with Google Gemini's Nano Banana model resulting in over 22 million additional downloads in just 28 days. However, the report notes that increased downloads do not always translate into revenue growth, as users may install apps to explore new features without converting to paid subscriptions. Only ChatGPT successfully turned its increased attention into revenue, generating approximately $70 million within a month.
According to Appfigures data, artificial intelligence image generation models are driving mobile app growth. These models are generating 6.5 times more downloads compared to traditional updates. This was reported by Techcrunch.com xabar.
While previously new features such as voice chat and conversational models drove demand, visual capabilities have now taken center stage. For instance, ChatGPT and Gemini achieved tens of millions of new downloads after launching their image models.
The Google Gemini app saw over 22 million additional downloads in the 28 days following the introduction of the Nano Banana image model. This figure increased the app's download rate by more than four times.
Meanwhile, ChatGPT gained over 12 million additional installations after introducing the GPT-4o image model.
However, the report notes that an increase in downloads does not always lead to revenue growth. Users install the app to test new features but may not necessarily become paid subscribers.
Only ChatGPT has been able to convert the increased attention into real revenue, earning approximately 70 million dollars within 28 days.
