TSMC plans to send older equipment to its German plant

Taiwanese chip manufacturer TSMC has begun a large-scale retooling of its production facilities. The company is not only modernizing its plants in Taiwan but is also preparing to supply the new ESMC plant under construction in Dresden, Germany. This is reported by Ixbt.com reports .
Major changes are taking place at the Fab 15 plant in Taiwan. The Fab 15B unit is transitioning from N7+/N5 technology to the more advanced N3 technology. This process is relatively straightforward due to existing EUV systems.
More significant changes are expected at the Fab 15A plant. Plans are in place to transition to N4 technology, replacing the DUV equipment currently producing 22–28 nm chips. It is this older generation of equipment that will be sent to Germany.
The ESMC plant in Germany will specialize primarily in producing chips needed for the automotive industry. TSMC is investing approximately $3.2 billion to implement this project.
The Dresden plant is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2027. Therefore, equipment delivery and installation are scheduled to begin in the coming months.
