Samsung offers 607% bonus to employees

A dispute over bonuses and profit sharing at Samsung has triggered the risk of a historic strike. While employees in the memory division, benefiting from growth in the AI sector, were offered bonuses of up to 607% of their annual salary, employees in the struggling Foundry and System LSI divisions were limited to just 50–100%, sparking protests. This is reported by Ixbt.com reports .

As a result of this inequality, many engineers are moving to competitor SK hynix. The labor union, representing tens of thousands of employees, is demanding a revision of the profit-sharing model and that up to 15% of operating profit be allocated as bonuses.

Following a deadlock in negotiations, employees announced an 18-day strike. However, a South Korean court intervened, banning the blockade of facilities and mandating that key personnel continue working to ensure safety and production.

The court ruling significantly weakened the impact of the strike and the union's position. Currently, the parties have resumed negotiations, and the government has announced its readiness to introduce mandatory arbitration to prevent semiconductor production from halting.
