Apple is developing an automatic locking feature for snatched iPhones

Apple is working on a new security feature for iPhone users. This system allows the device to automatically lock if it is snatched from the owner's hand. System codes analyzed by 9to5Mac indicate that this development is in an active phase. This is reported by Ixbt.com .

Currently, Apple devices have protection mechanisms such as Find My, Activation Lock, and Stolen Device Protection. However, if a criminal obtains an unlocked smartphone, the effectiveness of these measures decreases. The new feature is aimed at solving this exact problem by detecting theft through analyzing the device's movements.

The system relies on accelerometer sensor data to track sudden movements of the smartphone. It also checks the connection distance with Apple Watch: if the iPhone moves away from the owner at high speed, it is treated as a sign of theft. Additionally, it considers whether the device is connected to known Wi-Fi networks and if it is at locations familiar to the user (home or work).

If the iPhone is in an unfamiliar location and signs of snatching are detected, the system not only locks the screen but also restricts access to account settings and protected sections. While this solution is similar to the Theft Detection Lock feature in Google Android, Apple is integrating it more deeply into its own ecosystem.

The official release date for the new feature is not yet known. This step signifies Apple's transition from passive data protection to real-time behavioral analysis. Now, the smartphone does not just store data, but can evaluate the situation around the user and respond to threats independently.
