WhatsApp User Accounts Reportedly Blocked

According to TechCrunch, dozens of users have complained on social media over the past few hours that Meta blocked their WhatsApp accounts and moved them to the “review” stage. Those affected posted on X and Threads, saying they could no longer use the service.

Restrictions faced by users

When users tried to access the app, a special window appeared with the following message: “Your account activity and device information are being checked for compliance with the Terms of Service. We usually notify you of the result within 24 hours.”

It is worth noting that this popular chat app, owned by Meta, has more than 3 billion monthly active users worldwide. Therefore, even a relatively small-scale outage can disrupt the work of thousands of people.

Meta’s official response

In response to TechCrunch’s inquiry, Meta representatives acknowledged the issue and confirmed that they were working to resolve it. However, the company did not provide specific information about which regions were most affected or what exactly caused the outage.

“We continuously block accounts to combat those who attempt to abuse our service and to protect user safety. Sometimes we make mistakes in this process, and in such cases we act as quickly as possible to help people restore communication. We have taken steps to restore access to the affected accounts,” a company representative said.

The issue is currently being resolved gradually, and users are regaining access to their accounts. Nevertheless, experts expect appropriate measures to be taken so that such widespread failures in security systems do not recur in the future.
