Uzbeks were paid billions of sums for excess electricity from solar panels, Nova24.uz reported.
According to Deputy Minister of Energy Baxtiyor Mamadkarimov, 10,000 participants of the “Solar Home” program sold 12.2 million kWh of surplus electricity to the state and earned 12.2 billion UZS in return.
In 2024, Uzbekistan launched power plants with a total capacity of nearly 2,790 MW, including:
1,000 MW from solar photovoltaic stations,
800 MW from wind power plants,
965.2 MW from thermal power plants,
22.7 MW from hydroelectric stations.
Solar and wind plants generated about 4.9 billion kWh — equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of over 2 million households. This helped save nearly 1.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas and prevented 2 million tons of harmful emissions.
In total, Uzbekistan generated 81.5 billion kWh of electricity in 2024, with 67.5 billion kWh delivered to consumers.
In 2025, the country plans to:
launch large-scale solar and wind power projects totaling 4.5 GW,
install 785 MW of solar panels,
build hydroelectric stations with 225 MW capacity,
deploy 1.8 GW of electricity storage systems.
