
On June 17, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Chairman of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping held talks in the city of Astana.
Bilateral and regional issues of current importance were discussed.
The leaders of the two countries noted with great satisfaction that, in recent years, the relations of friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and China have risen to an unprecedentedly high level.
The agreements reached during the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to China in January 2024 are being systematically implemented.
It was noted that contacts and exchanges at all levels have significantly intensified.
A strategic dialogue between the foreign ministries has been established. In early June this year, the second Regional Forum was successfully held in Samarkand.

Trade-economic and financial-investment cooperation is actively developing. In 2024, the trade turnover reached $14 billion. The portfolio of investment projects exceeds $60 billion.
Joint technoparks and special industrial zones are successfully operating in our country’s regions, and the production of BYD electric vehicles is expanding.
Promising projects are being developed in green energy, oil and gas, chemistry, pharmaceuticals, metallurgy, mining, textiles, food and construction sectors, as well as in logistics, smart agriculture, artificial intelligence, and digitalization.
Mutually beneficial cooperation with China’s leading financial institutions has been established. Expansion of the investment platform with the Silk Road Fund is planned. With the participation of China Eximbank, the construction of the Olympic Village in the capital is being completed. The bank’s regional branch has opened in Tashkent.
Special attention was paid to deepening cooperation in poverty reduction.
The leaders also emphasized the importance of accelerating the construction of the strategic China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway.

There was interest expressed in developing exchanges in education, science, tourism, culture, personnel training, and the study of the Chinese language.
A branch of China’s Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University is operating in Uzbekistan, and an International Mathematics Center has been established at Urgench University in cooperation with Peking University.
Last year marked the 20th anniversary of the Confucius Institute, and the Chinese “Lu Ban Workshop” professional education system is being implemented.
Next year, it is planned to hold weeks of culture and art in both countries.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on the international agenda. The importance of continued coordination and mutual support within the framework of the UN, SCO, Central Asia – China format, and other multilateral structures was emphasized.
At the end of the meeting, it was announced that a statement on the completion of bilateral negotiations on Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO was signed. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
