Sharp Increase in Visitors from Afghanistan — Figures Are Striking

During January–June 2025, the number of tourists arriving in Uzbekistan from various countries increased sharply. According to official data released by the National Statistics Committee, a total of 223.6 thousand foreign citizens visited the Republic of Uzbekistan for commercial purposes in the first half of this year.

This figure is 158.6 thousand more compared to the same period in 2024, marking a 3.4-fold increase.

The highest number of visitors came from Afghanistan — 207,536 people. This accounts for the vast majority of all foreign visitors to Uzbekistan. In addition to Afghanistan, citizens also arrived from the following countries:

  • Tajikistan — 12,244 people,

  • Turkmenistan — 1,642 people,

  • Russia — 451 people,

  • Turkey — 276 people,

  • Kazakhstan — 255 people.

It is noted that most visitors came to Uzbekistan for commercial, business, or work-related purposes. The increase in economic cooperation and trade ties with Afghanistan’s border regions is likely a key driver of this growth.

A noticeable number of visitors also arrived from neighboring Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. Although the number of visitors from Russia, Turkey, and Kazakhstan is relatively lower, their participation in business projects in Uzbekistan remains significant.

The favorable infrastructure for foreigners in our country, government programs aimed at developing tourism, and the safe environment are all contributing factors to the growth in the number of foreign visitors.
