Watermelon prices have risen sharply, and prices continue to rise in the markets

By the end of August, it became known that prices for a number of goods and services in Uzbekistan had increased. According to the analysis published by the State Statistics Committee, in August 2025, the overall prices of goods and services rose by 0.4 % compared to July. The annual inflation rate stood at 8.8 %. For comparison, in August last year, this figure was 10.5 %.

According to the data, the rise in prices varied by region. The highest increase was recorded in Fergana region — 9.7 %. In Syrdarya, it was 9.4 %, and in Khorezm — 8.9 %. The lowest increase was observed in Jizzakh region — 8.1 %.

Which food products became more expensive?

In August, prices for some key food products rose significantly. In particular:

  • eggs — 2.7 %,

  • chicken meat (thigh and drumstick) — 2.1 %,

  • mutton — 1.4 %,

  • boneless beef — 0.7 %,

  • beef with bone — 0.2 %,

  • cottonseed oil — 1.6 %,

  • sugar — 0.1 %.

According to the official report, beef sold at reduced prices (65,000–75,000 UZS per kg) helped stabilize the average figures and prevented a sharp increase in the price index.

However, some products became cheaper: rice (–0.1 %), bread made from premium flour (–0.2 %), caramel candies (–0.2 %).

Major changes in the fruit and vegetable market

In August, watermelon prices surged by 28.7 %, reaching a record level. Melons rose by 11.7 %, cabbage — 11.4 %, potatoes — 3.5 %, bananas — 2.8 %.

At the same time, prices fell for tomatoes (–16.8 %), grapes (–5.4 %), eggplants (–4.3 %), cucumbers (–3.1 %), carrots (–3.1 %), bell peppers (–2.8 %), onions (–2.3 %), and apples (–1 %).

Changes in non-food services

  • housing maintenance and repair materials — 0.4 %,

  • medicines — 0.2 %,

  • healthcare services — 0.6 %.

In the transport sector, gasoline rose on average by 3.1 %. In particular: AI-80 — up 4.6 %, sold at 8,746 UZS per liter; AI-91 — 11,461 UZS; AI-92 — 11,126 UZS; AI-95 — 12,983 UZS. Propane increased by 0.6 %. Methane showed no significant change, but remains 31 % higher than in August last year.

In addition, parking services rose by 0.7 %, driving courses by 1.6 %, vehicle repair and maintenance by 0.6 %. Museum services increased by 10.6 %, veterinary and other pet-related services by 9.9 %.
