According to information released by the State Security Service Border Troops, the actions of Uzbek border guards who used weapons against Kyrgyz citizens in the incident that resulted in their deaths were deemed lawful and justified.
According to details, on August 15, two unknown individuals were found moving in the border area near the Ugam-Chatkal Reserve in the Bostanlyk district of the Tashkent region. The border guards, based on their authority, demanded that they stop. However, the individuals did not obey the order and tried to flee.
After that, according to the rules, the border guards first fired several warning shots into the air. However, they did not comply with legal requirements and continued to move towards the state border. According to the ministry, weapons were used as a last resort.
As a result of the incident, two people were seriously injured and died at the scene, despite the first aid provided by military personnel. During the inspection, one tent, three horses, food products, and the traces of a third person who managed to hide were found.
According to officials, the border services of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan were notified of the incident on the same day. On August 31, it was established that the deceased were citizens of Kyrgyzstan, and their bodies were handed over to relatives.
Also, on September 2-3, in accordance with the agreement of the heads of the border agencies of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, a bilateral inspection of the scene was carried out. As a result of the conducted studies, the commission officially confirmed that the actions of the border patrol were carried out within the framework of the legislation of Uzbekistan, that the deceased persons violated the state border, and that a third person managed to return to the territory of Kyrgyzstan and hide.
At the same time, an agreement was reached on cooperation in identifying the fugitive and taking appropriate measures. The official statement emphasized that to prevent such unpleasant situations, an agreement was reached to conduct explanatory work with the population living in the border areas of the two countries, as well as to further strengthen security and cooperation in challenging mountainous areas.
This event once again demonstrated the need to further strengthen border cooperation between the two countries and prevent similar tragic situations in the future.
