In Uzbekistan, medicines are prescribed via electronic prescription

Another important step has been taken in the direction of digitalizing the healthcare system. The Government of Uzbekistan has approved the procedure for prescribing medicines in medical organizations based on electronic prescriptions and monitoring their movement. This was reported by “Norma.”

According to the new regulation, doctors will now be able to electronically monitor the movement of medicines prescribed to patients and sold in retail. Electronic prescription forms will be issued through the special “Electronic Prescription” module, and all data will be automatically entered into the electronic medical record.

Prescriptions will be confirmed electronically using a QR code, and all information about the medicines will be entered into the electronic system by the doctor. Thus, doctors will be able to fully track the movement of medicines prescribed to patients.

According to the procedure, starting from December 10, 2025, in all medical institutions of Tashkent city and 15 districts where the pilot project is being implemented, medicines will be prescribed through electronic prescriptions. The medicine prescribed to the patient must, if available, be indicated under its international nonproprietary name. In addition, all prescription medicines must be registered in Uzbekistan.

Experts note that the electronic prescription system is expected not only to ensure transparent control of medicine circulation but also to create convenience for patients. At the same time, responsibility is established for medical workers who violate the rules of this system.
