Has a treasure been found in Karakalpakstan?

In recent days, news about the discovery of treasure in the "Akchakul" tourist and recreational area of the Ellikkala district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan has spread rapidly on social networks and caused widespread discussion. Many expressed interest in this event, while others talked about "expensive coins."

However, the Cultural Heritage Agency issued an official statement on this situation, stating that the reports do not correspond to reality.

According to the agency, after reports of the incident spread, specialists from the Department of Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Karakalpakstan went to the site and conducted an investigation. During the studies, no archaeological finds or objects of cultural value were found in the coastal area.

It turned out that the coins in the images circulated on social networks are not treasures, but coins of 200, 500 and 1000 soums issued in 2018 and 2022, which are in circulation today.

Based on the results of the study, a report was drawn up with the participation of the Department of Cultural Heritage of Karakalpakstan, the khokimiyat of Ellikkala district, and relevant specialists. At the same time, it was found that the information provided in the video message does not correspond to reality.

The agency urged citizens not to believe unverified information and to rely only on official sources. The importance of a responsible attitude towards cultural heritage sites and their preservation was also emphasized.

This incident in Karakalpakstan once again demonstrated the need to verify every "sensational" message on the internet through official sources.
