The foreign ministers of Uzbekistan and Georgia met in Samarkand

On the eve of the opening of the 43rd session of UNESCO, one of the year’s major international events, a meeting took place in Samarkand between Uzbekistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Baxtiyor Saidov and his Georgian counterpart Maka Bochorishvili. Held on October 29, the talks focused on deepening bilateral cooperation and discussing strategic directions.

At the meeting, the heads of the foreign affairs ministries discussed a wide range of topics. However, the main focus was on the transport and logistics sector.

The parties emphasized the necessity of enhancing transport connections, which is particularly important in the context of developing the Middle Corridor that connects Asia and Europe. For Uzbekistan, a country with no direct access to the sea, this route opens up new pathways to global markets through Georgian ports.

In addition to transit potential, the ministers also discussed prospects for cooperation in the agricultural sector in detail. In particular, the possibilities of expanding the mutual supply of agricultural products were considered.

Furthermore, issues of industrial cooperation were discussed, noting that both countries have great potential to implement joint projects in this field. Matters of humanitarian cooperation were also on the agenda.

Cultural ties and tourism were recognized as one of the priority areas. It was noted that the steady increase in the number of Uzbek tourists visiting Georgia in recent years demonstrates the mutual interest between the two nations.

A meeting in Samarkand, which has become central to the global humanitarian agenda during the UNESCO conference, confirmed the intention of Tashkent and Tbilisi to further strengthen constructive dialogue. The ministers agreed to maintain close ties in order to implement the agreements reached.
