Which region is the leader in potato cultivation?

According to preliminary data from the National Statistics Committee, in January-September of this year, all categories of farms in the republic produced a total of about 3.1 million tons of potatoes. This indicator shows stable growth compared to last year.

Analysis by region shows that the absolute leadership in potato production was maintained by the Samarkand region - 631,922 tons of products were obtained here. This volume is about one-fifth of the total potatoes grown in the country.

In second and third places are Tashkent region (320 053 tons) and Fergana region (317 426 tons), respectively. They are followed by Surkhandarya (316 052 tons) and Andijan (306 060 tons) regions.

In Namangan, 298,992 tons of products were grown, in Bukhara - 278,682 tons. In Kashkadarya region, the indicator is also quite high - 168,317 tons. In Navoi (83,552 tons), Jizzakh (68,103 tons), and the Republic of Karakalpakstan (66,102 tons), despite relatively low yields, stable growth is observed.

In the Syrdarya region, 60,131 tons of potatoes were grown, and in Khorezm - 140,672 tons. In the capital, Tashkent, this figure is about 429 tons, and the main need is met by products imported from other regions.

According to experts, this year, due to improvements in weather conditions and the irrigation system, potato yields were high in many regions. Also, as a result of the introduction of agricultural technologies and new seed varieties, a steady increase in yield is observed.

Thus, the Samarkand region once again confirmed its leading status in potato cultivation in the country.
