Since the beginning of this year, the unemployment rate in Uzbekistan has steadily declined and reached 4.9 percent. This indicator is considerably lower than last year’s level of 5.5 percent. Especially in cities such as Bukhara, Kogon, Navoi, Zarafshan, Gozgon, Samarkand and Shirin, unemployment has fallen below 4 percent for the first time, approaching the level of “natural unemployment”.
The measures implemented to improve the social condition of the population are also showing results in reducing poverty. During this year, 302 thousand low-income families have risen out of poverty. It is estimated that by the end of the year the poverty rate will decrease from 8.9 percent to 6 percent.
In districts with difficult living conditions — Khavas, Mirzaabad, Oqoltin, Dustlik, Paxtakor, Forish, Bostan, Vobkent, Mirishkor, Mingbulok, Uzun and Piskent — the number of poor families has decreased by up to 4.5 times. 105 thousand families that previously faced difficulties have begun to earn income, and the average income of poor families has doubled compared to the beginning of the year.
This year, for the first time, 1,435 neighborhoods have been designated as areas “free from poverty”. These results show that reforms aimed at strengthening economic stability, social protection and employment are being consistently implemented in the country.
