President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry Ryosei Akazawa on December 19, as part of his official visit to Tokyo. During the talks, discussions were held on strengthening strategic partnership, expanding trade and investment cooperation, and promoting joint projects.
During the meeting, the president noted the rapid growth of Japan's direct investments in Uzbekistan's economy. It was reported that the number of joint ventures had increased tenfold in recent years, and the total value of implemented projects exceeded $20 billion.
Both parties focused on strengthening trade and investment ties, as well as deepening industrial cooperation in areas such as alternative energy, decarbonization, and critical raw materials.
The importance of establishing an intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation at the ministerial level to systematically promote joint programs and projects was emphasized.
It was also announced that an agreement had been reached to develop a program of measures aimed at further strengthening business ties with the active participation of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and the Japan Association for Trade with CIS Countries (ROTOBO).
