Number of people leaving Uzbekistan decreases as desire to move to the capital rises

New figures on population migration in Uzbekistan have been announced: who is moving where? In the first quarter of the current year, specific changes were observed in internal and external migration processes. Zamin.uz has analyzed the latest statistical data related to population movement in our republic.
General Overview: Arrivals and Departures
During the first three months of 2026, the number of people who changed their place of residence across the republic was quite significant. According to statistical data, a total of 80,159 people moved in, while 81,715 citizens left their regions.
Interestingly, the main part of migration is occurring within the country. Approximately 79,500 of those who moved were internal inter-regional movements, while the number of arrivals from abroad amounted to 721 people.
Is the Desire to Go Abroad Weakening?
Looking at the dynamics of recent years, a downward trend is observed regarding Uzbekistani citizens leaving for foreign countries.
In 2023: The number of people going abroad was 4,053;
By 2026: This indicator decreased by almost half, falling to 2,277 people.
These indicators may indicate an increasing interest among the population to stay and work or live in their own country.
Tashkent — The Main "Magnet" of Migration
When analyzed by region, the capital Tashkent remains the most attractive area.
Tashkent City: 28,152 people moved in, while 20,621 people left (positive balance).
Tashkent Region: Second place with 11,486 arrivals and 8,278 departures.
For reference: The population growth in the capital and its surrounding regions is explained by economic opportunities and developed infrastructure.
Which Regions Have the Most Departures?
Unfortunately, in many regions, the number of departures remains higher than the number of arrivals. This is particularly noticeable in the following areas:
Qashqadaryo: 4,137 arrivals — 6,598 departures.
Samarqand: 4,478 arrivals — 5,779 departures.
Qoraqalpogʻiston: 3,545 arrivals — 4,418 departures.
Additionally, the process of the population moving to other regions, mainly to the capital, continues actively in the Fargʻona, Andijon and Buxoro regions.
Dear readers, in your opinion, what other conditions should be created in the regions to reduce the influx of the population to the capital? What is the migration mood in the area where you live?
