April Inflation: Why Did Food and Service Prices Rise?

The April summary for inflation, one of the most important indicators of our country's economic life, has been announced. The price changes in the consumer market over the past month have affected all of our wallets to some extent. Zamin.uz team analyzed which products and services saw the highest price increases this month.
According to the results for April, the monthly inflation rate in Uzbekistan was 0.6 percent, and the annual figure was 7.0 percent . The food sector emerged as the main 'engine' of this growth.
Products on our table: Under price pressure
In April of this year, 9 out of the 10 goods with the highest price increases were food products. If we look at the extended list, it is clear that 23 of the top 30 products are also food items.
The following products are leading in price increases:
Lemon: +14.2 percent;
Potato: +6.5 percent;
Meat products: up to 3.7 percent;
Carrot: +3.2 percent;
Sugar: +2.2 percent.
Changes in non-food products and services
In the non-food goods group, price increases were observed for shampoos (+2.9%), gasoline (+1.6%), and methane (+0.7%). Unexpected figures were recorded in the services sector. Specifically, money transfer services via electronic systems became 5.0 percent more expensive. Also, air travel (+2.6%) and waste collection (+2.4%) services felt the price pressure. It is noteworthy that the annual growth of waste services reached a record 28 percent .
Capital leadership and strategic changes in the market
By region, Tashkent city leads in monthly inflation with a 0.8 percent figure. Changes also occurred in the delivery services market: against the backdrop of the company 'Wolt' leaving the Uzbekistan market, the price of this type of service increased by 0.8 percent .
Statistical discrepancies and unexpected numbers
Another interesting statistical nuance was discovered during the analysis. Although the prices of some services rose sharply by up to 57.1 percent starting from April 1, this increase was not included in the official calculations of the inflation index. This shows a specific difference between real inflation and official figures.
