Uzbekistan in the Spotlight Again: FIDE Elections to be Held in Samarkand

Uzbekistan is set to host another major international event. The upcoming FIDE Congress and presidential elections will take place in Samarkand this year, as announced by the organization's press service.

According to official information, the congress will be held from September 20 to 27. The event will include elections not only for the FIDE President but also for vice-presidents and regional leadership positions.

Furthermore, the General Assembly, one of the organization's most important meetings, is scheduled for September 26–27. Currently, Arkady Dvorkovich has been leading FIDE since 2018, with 15th World Champion Viswanathan Anand of India serving as his deputy.

Notably, the 46th World Chess Olympiad will also take place in Samarkand during the same period, from September 15 to 27. This prestigious competition is significant as it is being held in Uzbekistan for the first time in history.

Experts believe that hosting such major international events in Uzbekistan will boost the country's sports and tourism potential, as well as strengthen its reputation on the global stage.
