American billionaire Elon Musk called for the closure of Radio Liberty and Voice of America. He wrote about this on his X (former Twitter) page.

Elon Musk is the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). This structure focuses on eliminating unnecessary regulations, reducing officials and costs. Based on this, the billionaire said that Radio Liberty and Voice of America are wasting taxpayers' money.

“Yes, close them. Europe is now free (except for the stifling bureaucracy). Nobody listens to them anymore. "It's just crazy radical leftists talking to themselves, spending $1 billion a year of American taxpayer money," the billionaire wrote on his X page.

Musk previously said the US government would stop funding Politico, The New York Times (NYT) and the Associated Press (AP). The AP was cited as having received $620,000 from the State Department, and the NYT "tens of millions of dollars" from the Department of Health and Human Services.

The White House said the funding was provided through USAID. Politico responded by saying it had "never been a beneficiary of government programs or subsidies."

"Politico received $8 million from USAID for its positive articles about Democrats," the US president said.

Trump added that "this could be the biggest scandal in history" and that Democrats "can't get away with it."

DOGE is not a US government agency

As The Guardian has clarified, DOGE is not a government department, and Musk is not considered a member of the new administration. Nevertheless, the billionaire has an office in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which is part of the White House complex.

Musk has ordered programmers and engineers aged 19 to 25 to monitor sensitive data from federal agencies and threaten mass layoffs.

A few days after Trump's inauguration, Musk sent an email to all 2 million US federal employees, urging them to resign in anticipation of the expected cuts. As it turned out, Elon Musk offered employees seven months' salary.
