During his visit to Spain, the Chairman of the Tourism Committee Umid Shodiev held a meeting with officials of one of the country's famous football clubs - Atletico Madrid, the committee's press service reported.
The parties discussed opportunities for cooperation in promoting Uzbekistan's tourism potential on the international stage. Given the popularity and global influence of the Atletico football club, special attention was paid to cooperation in promoting Uzbekistan as a unique tourist destination, the report says.
During the talks, views were exchanged on the prospects for joint marketing and advertising campaigns aimed at popularizing the country's rich cultural and historical heritage, as well as promoting key tourist destinations.
The organization noted that this meeting was "an important stage in the development of international cooperation in the field of tourism." This, it added, opens up new opportunities for expanding the marketing strategy aimed at attracting foreign tourists.
The Tourism Committee believes that cooperation with Atletico will allow Uzbekistan to integrate into global information and advertising campaigns. This, in turn, is expected to help increase tourist arrivals and strengthen the country's reputation as a promising tourist destination.
In January 2021, during a meeting between a delegation led by the then Chairman of the State Committee for Tourism Development, Aziz Abdukhakimov, and the management of the Atletico Madrid football club, the club representatives proposed establishing a football academy in Uzbekistan.
