At least 18 people, including 11 women and five children, were killed in a stampede at a railway station in New Delhi, India, NDTV reported.
A large crowd of people were waiting for the departure of the Prayagraj Express train on platform 14. They were rushing to board the trains to attend the Maha Kumbh religious festival on February 15. At the same time, two other trains with passengers were also held up on platforms 12, 13 and 14. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.

The youngest of the victims was seven years old, and the oldest was 79. More than a dozen of the injured are being treated in hospital.
In January, 40 people died in a stampede at the Maha Kumbh religious festival. 400 million people were expected to attend the world's largest festival. 60 people were injured in the stampede. The main ritual of the festival is a dip in the water, which is believed to cleanse not only the body but also the soul from sins.
Pilgrims were waiting in line to enter the Ganges River, when suddenly chaos and traffic jams broke out. The crowd headed towards the riverbank, and people began to fall. Despite the disaster, the festival continued. This event, which takes place once every 12 years, lasts for 45 days.
