Legion of Honor

The Legion of Honor was established by the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. On May 19, 1802, the Council of State adopted a law on the highest award.

Napoleon Bonaparte introduced a new award system in France, aiming to reward military and civil services.

Later, in 1815, Napoleon was overthrown. His successor, Louis XVIII, retained the Legion of Honor.

The Legion of Honor is awarded to citizens of foreign countries, as well as to citizens of France, and is the highest award of the country.

In France, the award of this order is also considered a state recognition of special services and the highest sign of honor.

The Legion of Honor is awarded to citizens of France and foreign countries for the following services:

· Individuals who have brought great benefit to France;

· Military personnel for heroism and high military services;

· Persons who have achieved great achievements in the fields of science, art, literature and economics, etc.

According to the rule, a French citizen can receive the Legion of Honor if he has worked flawlessly and without mistakes in the public service for many years and has achieved significant success. Even then, if it is considered necessary to award him and if he passes several stages, of course.

However, soldiers who have shown special heroism or have high titles, other persons who have achieved significant success are not required to go through the initial stages and are awarded the order if the head of state deems it necessary.

Only the President of France is exempt from the requirements of the rules and the head of state automatically becomes a recipient of the Legion of Honor.

The Legion of Honor has three degrees: Cavalier, Officer, and Senior Officer. Foreigners are usually awarded the highest degree - the Senior Officer gold badge.
