
In 2024, Ukraine tripled its weapons production, according to Strategic Industries Minister Herman Smetanin.
He stated that the $3 billion output in 2023 grew to $9 billion in 2024.
“2022 — $1B, 2023 — $3B, 2024 — $9B. That’s 9x growth in three years,” Smetanin noted.
Missile production up 8x
In 2024, Ukraine launched production of new cruise missiles and drones, including:
- “Palyanytsia”
- “Peklo”
- “Ruta”
- “Bars”
Missile production increased eightfold compared to 2023. Previously, “Neptun” was the only cruise missile in use.
Growth in artillery, drones, armored vehicles
- Artillery and mortar ammunition output rose 2.4 times.
- A new towed version of the “Bogdana” howitzer was introduced.
- Self-propelled artillery production tripled.
- Armored vehicle factories are at 50% capacity.
Target: $35 billion defense sector
Smetanin said Ukraine had the potential to produce $20 billion worth of weapons in 2024, with a projected $35 billion by 2025.
Presidential advisor Oleksandr Kamyshyn added that 30–40% of weapons used on the front line are made in Ukraine.
“Our defense industry now covers 30–40% of the army's needs.”
