The Kiev government is seriously preparing for the worst-case scenario in negotiations with the United States - the cessation of Washington's aid. This was reported by Bild, citing a source in the Ukrainian government.
According to the publication, Ukrainian officials consider the peace terms proposed by former US President Donald Trump unacceptable, and this situation deeply worries them.
"The proposals that are being presented to us and raised in the negotiations are absolutely unacceptable conditions. Ukraine will not surrender so easily. Whether the government wants it or not, the people will not accept these conditions," the publication's source said.
Bild reports that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky may meet with Donald Trump in person on April 26 during the farewell ceremony for Pope Francis.
Ukrainian diplomats are evaluating the conditions proposed by Trump as a “negotiation tactic,” but they are also dissatisfied with the fact that the US leadership is not putting enough pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The US is demanding that the Kremlin recognize Ukraine’s right to have its own army and defense industry as part of the agreement between Russia and Ukraine. According to anonymous sources, the US President’s special representative Steve Witkoff will discuss this issue during his upcoming meeting with Vladimir Putin.
However, agreeing to this demand would mean Putin’s retreat from his demand for “demilitarization” of Ukraine. The US is demanding that both Ukraine and Russia make certain concessions for the negotiations to be effective.
As Bloomberg notes, some observers see the US proposals as conditions that serve Russia’s interests. In particular, the demand that Ukraine abandon its desire to join the NATO alliance is mentioned among them. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
