Trump supports Zelensky's proposal for a 30-day ceasefire

Trump supports Zelensky's proposal for a 30-day ceasefire
US President Donald Trump has made another major statement on the cessation of hostilities in Ukraine. He announced his support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's proposal for a 30-day ceasefire with the Kremlin and issued a warning to Russia.

On May 8, Trump wrote on his Truth Social media page:
"If the ceasefire plan does not work, the United States and its international partners will impose even stronger economic sanctions on Russia."

His statement, undoubtedly aimed primarily at Moscow, once again demonstrated the US's firm position on the peace process.

Trump: "This will not be a temporary, but a permanent peace"

Trump stressed that he, together with the countries of the European Union, is working to establish a lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine.

"This process should end with a permanent peace, not a temporary one. The ceasefire should be the first step towards that peace agreement," the White House chief added.

30-day ceasefire proposal from Zelensky

For information, on the evening of May 7, Ukrainian President Zelensky sent an appeal to the Kremlin, proposing to suspend all military operations for at least 30 days. This proposal has not yet been officially rejected by the Kremlin, but there has been no response either.

This statement was made a few hours before the three-day ceasefire announced by Putin from May 8 to May 11 came into effect. The Russian side said that it dedicated the ceasefire to Victory Day.

Pressure is increasing: Trump team is ready

According to reports published by Bloomberg in early May, the Trump administration had prepared several scenarios to increase economic pressure on Russia. They emphasized that Putin is artificially prolonging the war.

Zamin.uz editorial office will continue to closely monitor any serious steps taken by the US and Europe to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict through diplomatic means. The results of political pressure, diplomatic proposals and international activities will be known in the coming days.
