The French armed forces plan to develop a new generation of combat robots by 2040. This cutting-edge project is being carried out jointly by the country's most qualified engineers, experienced military personnel and leading researchers in the field of defense. This was reported by The Straits Times.
As the future commander of the army, General Bruno Baratz, noted, the robots for the French military are expected to be actively deployed in the next three years, and this will be an unprecedented innovation for the country's military system.
Robots tested in real combat conditions
The first prototype of the new combat robots was also tested during military exercises that took place recently west of Paris and lasted several weeks. During the experiment, it was shown how the robots, equipped with legs, wheels and treads, would act against enemy forces.
These robots have successfully carried out not only reconnaissance and surveillance work, but also mine clearance and other dangerous tasks.
Commenting on the capabilities of these robots, General Tony Maffeis, head of the technical department of the French army, noted that "the tasks of robots are not limited to a wide range of activities, from reconnaissance to mine clearance. They will also be an effective assistant in ensuring the safety of soldiers on the battlefield."
The war in Ukraine has accelerated robotic technologies
It is noteworthy that the French army has been conducting research on robotic technologies since 2021. Drones and new generation weapons systems, which have been actively used in the military conflict in Ukraine, have dramatically accelerated the development of military robots.
According to military experts, drones and robots have radically changed the face of modern battlefields. They not only help save human lives, but also make it possible to carry out operations against the enemy more quickly and accurately.
The French government aims to strengthen the country's defense capabilities with such innovative solutions in the military field and take a leading position in the global military technological competition.
