A massive fire in Hyderabad, India's Telangana state, has claimed the lives of 17 people. According to ANI, women and children are among the dead.
The fire broke out in the early hours of the morning
According to official sources, the fire broke out in a residential building in a densely populated area of the city in the morning. A short circuit in a pearl shop on the first floor of the building caused the disaster.
It was also reported that the shop belonged to a family living one floor above. The fire spread to the upper floors in a short time, and it was not possible to save most of the people in the building.
Firefighters arrived quickly, but…
The Telangana state fire service quickly reached the area. However, due to the rapid spread of the fire over a large area, not everyone had time to be temporarily evacuated. Although the number of victims has not yet been officially confirmed, it is noted that the death toll is likely to increase.
The government expressed condolences and allocated compensation
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deepest condolences to the relatives of the deceased, calling the disaster a "heartbreaking event" on his official Twitter page.
The authorities also announced compensation - $ 2,300 will be paid to the families of the deceased, and $ 580 to the injured.
