Did Iran evacuate the Fordow nuclear facility before the strike?

The geopolitical situation in the Middle East has become even more tangled: the next sharp turn in Iran–US relations has attracted the attention of the whole world. According to Iran's state broadcaster IRIB, before the unexpected US strike, Iran timely evacuated its strategically important nuclear facilities such as Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordow.

Fordow — the most important secret facility

Special emphasis is placed on the Fordow facility. This site is located just 30 km from the spiritual center of the country, the city of Qom, at a depth of 60–100 meters underground. IR-1 and IR-6 centrifuges operated there, and enriched uranium was produced. Since 2006, Iran has built this facility with great secrecy, spending several billion dollars on it.

According to Reuters, Iranian officials moved the enriched uranium at Fordow to an unknown location in advance. The number of personnel was also sharply reduced. The latest satellite images confirm that two days ago, there was unusual activity near the facility.

Joint US and Israeli strategy

The conflict initially began with Israeli operations aimed at destroying Iran's nuclear program. While Israel struck at facilities such as Natanz and Isfahan, Fordow remained an “unreachable” target due to its fortified underground structure. Therefore, Israel was forced to seek military assistance from the US.

The US president initially said that it would take two weeks to intervene in the conflict, but the strike was carried out unexpectedly — this morning. Six B-2 Spirit bombers participated in the attack, and twelve GBU-57 "bunker-busting" superbombs were dropped.

Results of the strikes and global risks

At the moment, there is no officially confirmed information about the damage, and visual evidence is insufficient. However, the US White House claims that the Fordow facility has been completely destroyed. This means a new, more complicated stage has begun not only in the region, but also in global politics.

Iran’s evacuation of its strategic facilities in advance demonstrates the high level of the country’s intelligence and security system. However, these events foreshadow a possible further escalation in the Middle East.
