Chinese citizen commits suicide at ICE detention center in the US

In Pennsylvania, USA, a Chinese national, Chaofeng Ge, was found dead at the Moshannon Valley Processing Center, ABC News reported.

According to reports, he had been detained by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and placed in the facility only 5 days earlier. The 32-year-old was discovered in the shower, hanging by the neck. A letter was found at the scene, and no signs of foul play were detected. Authorities have ruled the case a suicide.

For context, Chaofeng Ge was arrested in January on suspicion of credit card fraud and admitted to the crime. He was sentenced to between 6 and 12 months in prison, but immediately after sentencing, was transferred to ICE custody. ICE stated that all detainees undergo timely medical and mental health checks, while the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stressed that such deaths are subject to strict investigation.
