According to "The Guardian", data provided by Israeli military intelligence reveals an extremely tragic and sorrowful picture of the situation in Gaza. Reports indicate that during 19 months of ongoing intense conflict and armed clashes, about 8.9 thousand members of Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad groups were killed or went missing.
However, alongside these numbers, even more horrifying figures have been recorded: during the same period, a total of 53 thousand Palestinians lost their lives. This means that only 17% of the total casualties were fighters, while the remaining 83% were civilians.
This situation once again demonstrates that the main victims of the war in Gaza are ordinary citizens. Thousands of women, children, and the elderly have fallen victim to the armed confrontations, which causes deep sorrow and anguish.
"The Guardian"’s sources emphasize that the data from Israeli military intelligence highlights the official nature and seriousness of these figures. While the 8.9 thousand represented individuals directly involved in military activities, the vast majority of the casualties were civilians who had no connection to the fighting.
Officials stressed that this information should be regarded as a serious signal for the international community. In any armed conflict, the fundamental principle must be the protection of civilians. Yet, the events in Gaza show that this principle has been gravely violated.
