The city of Enerhodar in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region is considered a very important area for the country’s energy system. Europe’s largest nuclear power plant is located here.
After Russia’s invasion, control over the city was lost. As a result, Ukraine was deprived of a significant amount of electricity. Experts say this threatens the entire country’s energy security.
There is also strong concern among the population. Since fighting continues around the plant, this could lead to dangerous accidents. International organizations are calling for the safety of the nuclear facility to be ensured.
The Ukrainian government states that regaining Enerhodar is a strategic task. According to them, this is not only about energy supply, but also about national security.
Without Enerhodar, Ukraine’s power grid is under great pressure. Experts note that the country is using other sources, but this is only a temporary solution.
