The US, in cooperation with Europe, may introduce new economic restrictions to bring Russia to the negotiating table. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent made this statement in an interview with NBC.
Bessent emphasized that the joint economic pressure from the US and the European Union is likely to create serious difficulties for Moscow and force it into the negotiation process.
In his opinion, Europe should be inspired by Washington's experience in the matter of sanctions. Thanks to this, bilateral pressure can become more effective.
As is known, the US previously imposed additional tariffs on India due to its purchases of Russian oil.
Sources from Bild and Reuters reported that on September 4, US President Donald Trump, during a meeting with European leaders, strongly demanded that they stop purchasing Russian oil.
This situation is being assessed as another pressure on the Russian economy. At the same time, through new sanctions, the West expects Moscow to change its position.
