In his Truth Social account, Trump stated: “For more than twenty years, The New York Times has been spreading unfounded and false information about your favorite president (about me!), my family, my business, the slogan ‘America First,’ and our entire country,” — his sharp statement read.
According to the president, the publication did not maintain any neutrality during the 2024 election campaign and openly supported Kamala Harris, who at that time was serving as vice president. Therefore, he called the newspaper “the voice of the radical Democratic Party.”
Trump is already known for his uncompromising fight in the media field. According to him, many media outlets have been spreading groundless insults against him for years and have tried to undermine his reputation. For this reason, he filed lawsuits not only against The New York Times but also against ABC News, CBS television channels, and The Wall Street Journal. Reportedly, settlements were reached with ABC News and CBS before trial, but the case with The New York Times remains unresolved.
Analysts believe that such actions can be seen as part of Trump’s political strategy. He is trying to present himself as a “victim” of the media and thereby attract even more attention from the electorate.
Experts emphasize that if the lawsuit is satisfied, it could have a major impact on media and politics relations not only in the United States but also worldwide. After all, a $15 billion compensation would be one of the largest in media lawsuit history.
