Billions in aid are being sent to Ukraine through the new PURL program

The US and its close allies have implemented the PURL program as a new direction for providing military aid to Ukraine. The first aid package within the framework of this program included a Patriot air defense system and missile supplies for HIMARS firearms. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this at a press conference in Kyiv, held jointly with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola.

According to Zelenskyy, Kyiv has already received more than $2 billion through the PURL program. The President noted that additional funds are planned to be allocated in October, and as a result, the total amount of assistance is expected to reach approximately $3-3.5 billion. It was also noted that each of the first two packages is worth 500 million dollars.

This was the first time Kyiv had used the new mechanism. Under this initiative, the US and its partners will have the opportunity to pay for American weapons and ammunition for Ukraine in accordance with a special Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL).

Also, according to Reuters on September 16, the Donald Trump administration has already approved the first two aid packages planned to be sent to Kyiv, and they may be delivered in the near future.

This step provides Ukraine not only with new financial resources, but also with the opportunity to be provided with important strategic weapons. Thus, military cooperation between Kyiv and its allies is expected to reach a higher level.
